该倍数是一个可变的整数, 告诉路由器在那些有着低于最小度量值乘以该倍数的那些路由上进行负载均衡The multiplier is a variable integer that tells the router to load share across routes that have a metric that is less than the minimum metric multiplied by the multiplier。比如在指定了5的变化时specifying a variance of 5就指示路由器在那些度量值低于最小度量值5倍的路由上进行负载均衡。在使用了`variance`命令同时指定了除开1之外的倍数时该路由器就将在这些满足条件的路由上按照各条路由的度量值成比例的分配流量。也就是说对那些有着较低度量值的路由比起那些有着较高度量值的路由要经由其发送更多的流量。
下图36.11演示了一个基本的运行EIGRP的网络。其中的路由器R1和R2是通过背靠背的串行链路连接起来的R1 and R2 are connected via back-to-back Serial links。两台路由器间的链路`150.1.1.0/24`有着1024Kbps的带宽。两台路由器之间的`150.2.2.0/24`链路有着768Kpbs的带宽。路由器R1是通过EIGRP将`172.16.100.0/24`前缀通告给R2的。
