Installing XScreenSaver In Ubuntu
================================================================================
This tutorial intention is to show you how to add screen savers in Ubuntu 12.04 (although in other Ubuntu versions) which does not with any screen savers. But, many people new to computers and Linux, don’t know about the screensaver, what is a screensaver?
A screensaver is a computer program used primarily for security. This program blanks the screen or fills it with moving images or patterns when the computer is not in use. A screensaver can also be used for entertainment or to display system status information. It is a very good solution while you plan to leave your office and don’t want anybody to see what you working on.
**How does a screensaver makes my computer secure?**
A screensaver can be configured to ask users for a password before permitting the user to resume work, but be careful because if you have set set your account to automatically log in upon startup the attacker will be able to access your account simply by restarting the machine.
**How to install a screensaver?**
Fire up a new terminal like shown in Figure 1.

*Sorting Options Features in Musique 1.3 (OS X Screenshot)*
**It’s a good week for music fans on Linux. Following the recent update to Banshee comes a new release of the lightweight Qt music player Musique.**
[Musique 1.3][1] builds on the core feature set found in previous versions by adding the much-requested **option to sort artists and albums** in the grid views by name, popularity, year, etc.
Also new in this update is a “reworked” playlist that now shows a small album cover thumbnail for the playing track; notifications on song change; and support for gapless playback for those using the GStreamer Phonon backend.
Various bug fixes are also included, as are performance improvements in the album and artist grids, and a wider selection of image formats for local album art.
Musique 1.3 will be **available from the Ubuntu Software Center in the next few days** (currently waiting on approval).
In the mean time you can install version 1.1 from the Software Center by hitting the button below. Ubuntu will automatically upgrade this to the newest version as soon as it’s been given the nod.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 Beta Can Remotely Control Windows 8
================================================================================
**Red Hat has announced the availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 Beta for all the customers and partners.**
![](http://i1-news.softpedia-static.com/images/news2/Red-Hat-Enterprise-Linux-6-5-Beta-Can-Control-Windows-8-Installations-389761-2.png)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 includes numerous updates for the existing features set and provides new functionalities in the areas of Subscription Management Services, scalability, networking, storage, virtualization, and security.
“To keep pace with the demand for enterprise-class infrastructure, the newest version of the leading Linux platform extends its scalability and manageability to aid in the build-out and control of large, complex IT environments.”
“For example, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 will be designed to simplify the operation of mission-critical SAP applications by automating the optimal configuration of common SAP deployments,” reads the official [announcement][1].
According to the release notes, Red Hat Enterprise Linux is fully integrated with subscription management services, which is very useful in managing the local system and its allocated subscriptions.
The developers from Red Hat also inform us that Kernel dump files on large systems can now scale to multiple terabytes of data. With the help of a new compression algorithm (LZO) that is used to speed the creation of dump files, the time needed for crash dump generation has been shortened.
One of the most interesting features of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 Beta is its ability to remotely operate Windows 7 and Windows 8 desktops and Windows Server 2012 consoles using the RDP protocol.
Also, the LibreOffice package has been updated to the 4.0 branch, which is actually a nice surprise given the well-known fact that Red Hat only uses time-proven applications and that devs are extremely cautious with what they are adopting for the next release.
The complete release notes can be found in the official announcement.

Ubuntu 13.10 vs. Ubuntu 13.04: Reasons to Upgrade
================================================================================
**Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) is scheduled for launch on October 17, but users of the previous operating systems from Canonical are wondering why they should upgrade at all, given the fact that the new one doesn't seem to have too many features.**
![](http://i1-news.softpedia-static.com/images/news2/Ubuntu-13-10-vs-Ubuntu-13-04-Reasons-to-Upgrade-389846-2.jpg)
Canonical has been focusing on quality and on improving the existing features rather than making any drastic changes. This meant that the last two versions of Ubuntu didn't have much to show for, at least on the surface.
Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) has been called boring, among other things, but people don't realize that a lot of work is put behind every release of Ubuntu, even if it's not accompanied by any major visual changes.
So, why should you upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10 if there won't be any noticeable changes for the average user? Although it might seem that almost nothing has changed, the truth is that a lot of things have been upgraded, and that's always a good thing (most of the time).
The most important is, of course, the new Linux kernel 3.11.x, which is now the latest stable version available at the time of the launch. It comes with support for more devices and hardware components, better power management, and a ton of other improvements.
Then there is the upgrade for GNOME. Canonical may sport the Unity desktop environment, but they still use a lot of GNOME packages. Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) now comes with applications from the 3.8 branch, which is excellent news, especially for the Ubuntu GNOME flavor.
The Smart Scopes are also a big improvement over the former Lens feature. They are a lot better integrated and provide more to-the-point answers.
The security settings have been overhauled and users now have a lot more control over the traffic made by the operating system. It's possible to stop any communications between your PC or laptop and Canonical servers.
Ubuntu 13.10 is also a cornerstone for the package format. Until now, all the apps available for the Ubuntu came in a deb format, but the user had to have the dependencies installed or they had to do it separately.
With the new Click format, all the dependencies are now available from the package itself, which in theory means that you won't find any software incompatible with your distribution, if the developers use the Ubuntu SDK.
Last but not least, Unity has also received a multitude of improvements and should work much better than in any of the previous versions of Ubuntu.
If all these reasons are not enough to make you upgrade, then you should wait for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, but there is no guarantee that it's not going to “look” largely the same like Ubuntu 13.10.
